Student support
BCU's student support services provide advice and information on all aspects of student life.
Academic support
The Centre for Academic Success is the University's central learning development service. The Centre will help you develop all of the necessary academic, technical and numerical skills you need to progress and successfully complete your course.
The Centre provides a range of support including: academic essay and report writing; English language for international students; referencing; dissertations; improving your assignment drafts; presentation skills; maths and statistics; computing and programming; project management; and study skills.
Financial support
BCU has a specialist team to advise on a range of money and childcare related topics, including budgeting, hardship funding and welfare benefits, and sourcing and paying for suitable childcare and before/after school provision.
Mental health and wellbeing
We have a professional and confidential Mental Health and Wellbeing team to support students’ physical, psychological and emotional needs. The team consists of counsellors, CBT therapists, mental health advisers and wellbeing advisers.
Staff receive information to help signpost students should they need support and there is regular staff training on Mental Health and Wellbeing services. Faculty Student Centres are set up as the first point of contact and can refer to Mental Health and Wellbeing services, as can any staff members.
All students can access our BCU Wellbeing app. The app was created by a team of experts with the support of BCU's Mental Health and Wellbeing Team. It aims to support students throughout their studies, helping them to create healthy habits, increase productivity, and live a healthy and positive lifestyle.
Disability support
Our Disability Support Team implements support for disabled students, runs a screening and diagnosis programme for students who may have Specific Learning Difficulties, such as dyslexia, and advises staff on supporting disabled students and inclusive practice.
Career advice
Our Careers+ service offers students a one stop shop for access to careers advice, job searching, CV checks, events/sessions and more.
