Student support

At Buckingham, we see individuals, not numbers. We equip you with the skills and knowledge to navigate through life, building resilience so you can thrive.

Our Wellbeing, Skills and Diversity Team offer personalised support to any student who may be encountering problems with university life or may have issues with their emotional or physical health.

We want to make a positive difference to students’ health and wellbeing and endeavour to make their time here successful. The Wellbeing, Skills and Diversity team works closely with students, Faculties and other departments around the University to ensure all students have the best chance to complete their studies successfully.

We work closely with the NHS, Swan Practice Buckingham and other organisations to promote health and wellbeing. The Swan Practice also arranges an on-campus clinic during term-time.

Academic support

We can help you develop the skills you need to support your academic performance, including research and writing skills. ASK, our Academic Skills team, are available to all students and they work closely with the University departments, personal tutors and the various schools of study.

Personal tutors

Every student at Buckingham is assigned a personal tutor: these are members of our academic staff who are here to support you from the day you start to the day you complete your course. They are there to offer guidance and advice to ensure your studies are a success.

Dyslexia support

We offer free dyslexia screenings and have a dedicated dyslexia specialist who is able to offer follow up 1:1 sessions or group workshops.

Career support

Throughout your time as a student, our dedicated Careers and Employability Service is available to help you to prepare for your future. Join one-to-one career consultations, on-demand mock interviews, and explore an online hub of resources to support career preparation and job hunting.

We run careers workshops every term, and you may also encounter the team within your course as they deliver sessions on skills and employability topics as part of academic programmes.

Online and on-campus employer events give you the opportunity to interact with professionals from organisations ranging from global employers to local business owners, and to hear from Buckingham alumni about their career journey.
