Study in London
St Mary’s University is a modern, friendly and welcoming university situated in the leafy borough of Richmond-upon-Thames and just a short train journey away from the hustle and bustle of Central London. With over 5,000 students you’ll quickly feel at home, whilst still being offered all the challenges and excitement of a rewarding student experience.
We have been building a reputation of excellence in education since being established in 1850 and whilst being centred by key Catholic values of fairness, respect and generosity, we are of course welcoming to students of all faiths and none.
A High Quality Education
Our team of experienced and respected academics, many of whom are leading experts in their areas, are passionate about what they teach and strive to empower their students with knowledge. That's why we are rated in the top 5 universities in the UK for teaching quality by the Sunday Times Good University Guide (2024).
At St Mary’s it’s often said that you’re known by name and not by number. Lecturers are dedicated to their students and will support your development throughout your time here.
The success of our graduates goes beyond their degree classification, with 96% of students in employment, vocation or further study within 15 month of graduating (HESA, 2024). Our programmes are designed to mirror experiences you’ll have in the world of work. In addition to work placement opportunities and lectures from experts, we will help you with everything you need to build your career – from writing a CV and creating a LinkedIn profile, to learning interview techniques and building your industry network.
Flexibility and Support
We offer a wide range of undergraduate degrees, many of which can be combined to create a joint honours programme shaped to fit your aims.
There is also a varied offering of foundation, postgraduate, PGCE, research and short course opportunities, allowing you a suitable pathway regardless of your previous academic experience.
Your personal tutor is your key point of contact throughout your time here. They will offer academic guidance, and help you to access support for wellbeing and professional development. Our Student Services team is also on hand to support you in a range of areas including finance, disability, housing, counselling and wellbeing.
Leisure and Lifestyle
With sports clubs, societies, annual events and entertainment throughout the year right here on campus, there’s always something for you to get involved in! Our friendly International Team also set up special events – from welcome events to Thanksgiving – to ensure you can quickly make new friends.
The Students’ Union (SU), whilst being there to support you, is on hand to offer an exciting social life both on and off campus. The SU organises all kinds of entertainment, from weekly events through to major annual occasions.
We also have an excellent reputation for sport, with numerous successes every year. Athletes from St Mary’s have won Gold medals at every Games since Beijing 2008.
Life in London
We are located in a very green area of South West London, with both Bushy Park and Richmond Park a short bus ride away.
There are shops and restaurants in within walking distance in Twickenham and Teddington, plus plenty more shops, cinemas, nightclubs and more in the nearby towns of Richmond and Kingston.
Twickenham is also the home of England rugby. The national team play at the nearby Twickenham Stadium and Premiership team Harlequins at The Twickenham Stoop.
Jumping on a train at Strawberry Hill Station (a five minute walk from campus) will get you to London Waterloo and into the centre of a capital city with endless possibilities!
