Brighton and Sussex Medical School

Brighton has a buzzing city vibe with a wide variety of shops, restaurants, cafés and bars. The individuality of the quirky lanes among the beautiful scenery of the seaside and historical buildings is what makes Brighton a fantastic student town. Brighton nightlife has a great reputation, with a range of bars, clubs and pubs with affordable student nights, live music and DJs.

Brighton is known for its art and cultural scene. The Brighton Centre, Dome, Theatre Royal and Old Market attract a range of big-name artists. There are also various opportunities to stay active, including beach volleyball, windsurfing, sailing, diving, kayaking, kitesurfing or paddle boarding.

BSMS MedSoc offers a wide range of clubs and societies to get involved with and works with both universities’ student unions to organise events aimed at medical students, such as balls, cabarets, talks and socials. There is also a range of competitive sports teams with most taking part in local or regional leagues.

One of the key benefits of studying at BSMS is being a member of both the University of Sussex and the University of Brighton, as well as being a student at BSMS as a standalone institution. This means students have access to all campuses and facilities at both universities.

BSMS students in their first year will have a choice of living in either University of Sussex or University of Brighton-managed accommodation.

First year BSMS students can choose from Lewes Court Phases I and II or Norwich House on the University of Sussex campus, or Varly Park on the University of Brighton campus. Choosing university-managed accommodation will also ensure you are placed solely with medical students in your first-year housing.
