Why choose a career with SSE?

SSE is the UK and Ireland’s clean energy champion. We’re building the world’s largest offshore wind farm, delivering 1000s of new jobs, and developing enough renewable energy projects to power 2 in 3 UK homes. How are we doing it? People power.

Working with us means joining a team of over 12,000 dedicated people who genuinely care. Whether we’re fixing power lines, helping customers, or inventing the energy technologies of tomorrow, we work as a team, look out for one other, and keep each other safe. And our early careers programmes are getting bigger and better. There's a huge range of apprenticeships currently available at all levels, so whatever career path you want to take, an apprenticeship will help you get there. Most of the apprenticeships we offer are strengths based which means you don't need any qualifications to apply. We also offer higher and degree apprenticeships where you will earn while gaining an HNC, HND or degree qualification at university. The entry requirements for these apprenticeships are Highers / A Levels or equivalent. Feeling inspired? We're creating 1,000 jobs every year to help us create a homegrown energy system that is cleaner, cheaper and more secure. Testimonials

Hannah’s Experience - I felt well informed through the recruitment process with an understanding of what the next step would be and advice on how to prepare for it, and results / feedback from each stage were communicated in a timely manner.

My main piece of advice would be to fully research the company, including the business areas you are not applying to. This will give you a fuller view of SSE’s wider goals, and how your chosen business area fits into the bigger strategic picture.

Fraser’s Experience - I really enjoy my job - it is a nice balance of fieldwork and computer-based work, and a wonderful way to visit parts of Scotland you might otherwise never see.

Becoming a surveyor was not something that was on my radar when I left school, but I am glad my career path has led me to where I am now.

Calum's experience - The graduate scheme is an excellent opportunity to develop and learn, especially with the chance to move between placements in various business units or teams.

This provides a holistic view of the business unit that graduates are part of and allows each graduate the opportunity to meet many people.
Getting the opportunity to complete both a HNC and get in job experience. The HNC is allowing me to build up my understanding of being a Power Networks Engineer and the in-job experience allows me to get a better understanding of the day-to-day tasks in the department. Every day I am learning something new, and I am also getting to interact and meet other employees both in my department but also in other departments.
