A world of difference

We are a leading international law firm, with a global reputation for providing outstanding legal services. We are a trusted adviser to some of the largest companies in the world, advising on complex cross-border deals every single day.

There are distinct differences that set us apart from other global law firms. We train all of our lawyers to be a multi-specialist, equipped to advise on a broad range of legal matters. This is hard work, but our lawyers say it makes for a far more fulfilling career. Much of our work is international and cross-border in nature, and on average we work with more than 200 law firms across 100 countries annually. We have no billing or time targets, allowing our lawyers to work collaboratively and focus on the quality of work and client service

Our Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme

Our new solicitor apprenticeship programme is for bright and motivated school leavers who are ready to kick start their career in commercial law.

During your first four years as a Solicitor Apprentice, you will rotate through a range of departments, allowing you to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience whilst studying one day per week towards your undergraduate law degree. During the final two years of the programme, you will join the trainee solicitor cohort while also studying for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). Throughout the duration of the programme, you will have a dedicated supervisor for each of your rotations who will work with you and our education provider on setting goals and giving you exposure to a range of tasks, work and areas of law. You will be actively involved in the work your supervisor and group are handling. Responsibilities and tasks will vary, but you will be an important part of the team straight away. Supervisors will change at seat rotation, meaning you will benefit from working with people across the firm, enhancing your multi-specialist development.

Culture

People often talk of the sense of belonging at Slaughter and May and, while it is hard to pinpoint exactly where this comes from, one enduring characteristic of the firm is that the people here just do not let each other down. We support each other by respecting autonomy through trust. We think that the loyalty the firm shows its people is an important factor. We believe that's also reflected in the high percentage of trainees who remain with us on qualifying. We do things right, with integrity and with consideration.

Values

Excellence is deeply ingrained in our culture and central to everything we do. We have four core values that, together, allow us to achieve excellence. The highest standards – we set exacting standards for our work and our performance. We conduct ourselves with integrity, responsibility and candour. Independence of thought – we thrive on original thinking and novel approaches, and welcome diversity of experience and different points of view. Collective endeavour – we are intentionally collaborative and supportive. Respect for all – we strive to be fair, considerate and inclusive in all our dealings.
