Soni - Supplier Parts Quality Intern, Rolls-Royce
It was Soni’s love of cars that attracted him to completing an internship with the BMW Group. In this interview, he explains how his mechanical engineering course at university helped him in his role as a Supplier Quality Parts Intern.
I love cars and knew that I wanted to complete a placement year with BMW Group. I visited the website and applied for Internships which I felt were most appealing and appropriate for my degree. My role as ‘Supplier Parts Quality Intern’ is quite varied, and you gain experience in different topics across the team. My degree provided valuable knowledge of technical drawings and parts. We compare parts against Engineering Drawings to identify any deviations from company standards. I liaise with suppliers regarding faults, and my degree means that I understand the technical terminology, which prevents confusion and being misled. How have you found your internship? I enjoyed the Supplier Parts Quality placement. I got to be involved in a range of topics and to experience all the difference aspects of a typical Front Desk Parts Quality Engineer’s. It feels satisfying helping the Department to reach their target, making managers happy and helping the business. I have had the opportunity to meet a variety of people through being introduced to them or just taking the initiative to talk to them. I got to connect with a few people from my own Department and from Assembly Line. The great thing about Rolls-Royce is that employees have a variety of career paths. There is no one size fits all. Some have some through being an Apprentice, Associate, Graduate etc to the position there are now from different backgrounds. You do not necessarily need to have a passion for cars.
