Summary
This session will provide an overview of the Core Maths qualifications and the benefits to students at sixth-form and undergraduate level that studying Core Maths offers across a range of courses, including testimony from students. We will provide information on the growth of Core Maths in England, how schools/colleges are being supported to teach it and the work being undertaken with other subjects at A level. We will look at approaches for teaching Core Maths with examples of the contextualised problems that students may encounter which help them to develop their data handling, critical analysis and problem solving skills. We will consider what university admissions processes can do to help promote the uptake of Core Maths, with examples drawn from universities who already do this. The session will be presentation based, with an opportunity to discuss exemplar materials and ask questions.
