Determined to get to your dream career? going to a UCAS discovery event can help decide the best way to get there.
UCAS Discovery is an event where you can talk to universities, colleges, careers advisers, UCAS experts, employers, and apprenticeship providers all in one place. Perfect to help you decide the right path for you. Here’s how to get the most out of the day.
Meet your UCAS Discovery guide, Anna
Anna is studying concept art for games and film at Staffordshire University. She knew she wanted to study an artsy subject and go into an art-based career. She always loved subjects like music and art, and going to UCAS Discovery and talking to all the people there about the options available helped her decide which course would be best for her.
Pick up a Mission Card
Here's a mission card that Anna used to help inform her conversations with unis and employers at the event. You can pick one up when you walk in or screenshot this.
Whatever career you want to do, use the UCAS Mission Cards to help you ask the right questions. You can pick up a Mission Card on the day – be sure to add some of your own questions in too.
Anna's top tips for the day
Before the event
- Do some research into who’s there and who offers relevant courses or apprenticeships. Pick at least 3 exhibitors you’re interested in speaking to when you get there
- Research the different paths you could take to get to your dream career. Don’t limit yourself to just speaking to universities, look at colleges, employers and apprenticeship providers too
- Take our careers quiz to make sure the career you have in mind will suit you
During the event
- Head to the UCAS zone to pick up an event guide and Mission Card, so you know where everything is and have some starter questions for the experts
- Speak to anyone and everyone who you think is even loosely connected to the industry you want to go into; they might know more than you think
- Explore the apprenticeship & employers zone – an apprenticeship might be a good way for you to get into your dream career
After the event
- Head to your UCAS Hub – it has everything you need to collate all your options after the event. Anyone who scanned your ticket will appear in your UCAS hub so you can start comparing
- Explore our city guides to find out more about where different unis and colleges are located
